Nassal provided custom scenic rockwork for three new dolphin habitats at the Gulfarium, including the Encounter Habitat, Exhibit Habitat and Show Habitat. Together, these habitats hold 1.1 million gallons of water and were designed to support dynamic animal care, guest interaction and long‑term operational performance.
The project required detailed coordination around Life Support Systems tie‑ins and tank inserts, presenting both technical challenges and opportunities for creative design. Nassal fabricated realistic and immersive rock features that complement the habitats while accommodating the complex systems embedded within the structures. Working closely with the general contractor and engineering team, the rockwork was seamlessly integrated to ensure both functionality and visual authenticity.
Beyond the dolphin habitats, Nassal’s scope extended to the surrounding guest environment. Rockwork was incorporated throughout the 480‑person bleacher seating area and the 1,600‑square‑foot Encounter Building, which houses restroom and changing facilities. These elements were designed to blend naturally into the overall habitat aesthetic, enhancing immersion while supporting heavy daily use. Careful attention to hardscape detailing helped tie the space together visually and experientially.
This project highlights Nassal’s ability to deliver high‑quality craftsmanship within complex, multi‑disciplinary environments. The result is a durable and immersive aquatic setting that supports the Gulfarium’s mission of animal welfare and conservation education while elevating the overall guest experience.
