Nassal played a key role in bringing the African Forest attraction to life, delivering a wide range of themed fabrication and construction elements that blend artistry with engineering. From shop fabrication drawings through final installation, our team provided the scenic environments, structural detailing and specialized features that define this expansive habitat.
The work included twenty-foot-high concrete earth bank walls with integrated tree planters that frame the landscape, as well as a dramatic fifty-foot lava tunnel and a mysterious cave featuring hand-carved Koolookamba figures designed to immerse visitors in the mythology of the forest. Naturalistic mud banks and detailed rockwork tie the environment together, while the chimpanzee playground showcases large climbing trees reinforced with structural steel by Nassal Metal Works to ensure both safety and enrichment for the animals.
Beyond the scenic craftsmanship, the African Forest serves as a vibrant home for a diverse collection of species. Ten chimpanzees share the habitat alongside white rhinos, kudu, antelope, ostrich, giraffes and cheetahs, creating a dynamic environment that supports animal welfare and enhances visitor engagement.
Through careful coordination of design intent, structural performance and creative storytelling, Nassal transformed the African Forest into an enduring exhibit that connects guests to the wildlife and landscapes of Africa while demonstrating the power of immersive zoo habitat design.
