Blending thrills, storytelling and scenic immersion, Volcano Bay became Universal Orlando’s boldest leap into water park innovation. Nassal was selected to fabricate the iconic 200-foot-tall volcano, Krakatau, along with extensive themed area development and scenic rockwork throughout the park.
This project was delivered using a design/build model, streamlining collaboration between design intent and field execution to meet aggressive budget and schedule goals. Krakatau alone features over 150,000 square feet of hand-carved scenic rockwork, while the surrounding area development added another 150,000 square feet of highly detailed themed environments, bringing the total to over 300,000 square feet of immersive fabrication.
As the first water theme park developed by Universal Orlando, Volcano Bay merges storytelling, engineering and artistry into a one-of-a-kind destination. The park is divided into four immersive zones and includes 18 cutting-edge attractions ranging from high-thrill water slides and wave pools to relaxation-focused river rides and beachfront lounging areas. At the center stands Krakatau, the visual and thematic anchor of the park, complete with waterfalls, hidden caverns and integrated ride experiences.
The project showcases Nassal’s expertise in large-scale rockwork fabrication, scenic theming and immersive environment construction, all executed within a compressed on-site timeline of under 12 months. Through close coordination with Universal Creative, Nassal helped bring this next-generation water park to life with authenticity, efficiency and visual impact.
